The portable is listed in the Traction Engine Register as Unknown Makers No 1 for those who would like to mark it 'as seen'.
It does belong to the Road Locomotive Society Chairman. This is only the second time it has been seen in public.
It probably dates from 1840 - 1850 and must be the earliest portable in the UK.
William Cambridge from Market Lavington, near Devizes; and later of Bristol, made similar return flue engines. However some features on this engines are significantly different.
