Just got back from Dordrecht In holland. What a brilliant do. Lots of engines, brilliant setting, well organised and we were well looked after when we were over there. Look forward to 2016. For anybody who dosent know what Dort In Stoom is, it is organised by the town of Dordrecht every 2 years and is very much a celebration of Anything steam and vintage related. Being a small harbour town, there are over 100 steam boats and similar vessels, quite an impressive sight. Well worth the trip over, not far from Rotterdam Port or a short train ride from Amsterdam Airport.
Too many pictures to list them all, here are a few of my favourites.
Vera Lynn. This is a very impressive creation. Made from wood and steel, and powered by a 2cv petrol engine, even had stains coming from the cylinder and mud hole doors. To the untrained eye it is un mistakable for a steam engine. What ruined it for me was they had an awful recording of train whistles and horns they would play from it.
The grand leaving parade.
Very impressive steam powered, automatic Clog making machine
This was powering the clog making machine
And thanks to David Bloor for being our guide and interpreteur, we managed to find our way to the nearby railway station that was running 2 preserved Main line steam locos.
