Default Crank up steam and vintage vehicle show coming to saffron walden

CRANK UP STEAM AND VINTAGE VEHICLE SHOW COMING TO SAFFRON WALDEN

The event, now in its fourth year at Carver Barracks, will take place
on April 26 and 27.

The show was started by vintage vehicle enthusiast in the area, Paul
Engelmann, in the 1970s and has been organised on behalf of the East
Anglian Traction Engine Society since 2015.

This year, the society is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

A spokesman for the event said: "Visitors to the show will be able to
enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of a bygone age.

"Huge traction engines and steam miniatures will be joined by vintage
tractors, cars, and vehicles of all descriptions.

"There will be demonstrations of steam wood sawing, turning tree
trunks into useful planks and firewood, and a World War II
re-enactment."

There will also be a "Route 70 Anniversary Parade" and a funfair
featuring a steam-driven carousel built in 1893.

The spokesman added: "Visit our selection of trade stands, and if
you’re feeling peckish you can visit one of our food vendors, or you
are welcome to bring along your own food to consume in our picnic area
while the show happens around you."

The gates open at 10am each morning with admission £8 per adult, with
accompanied children under 16 free.

How does one turn tree trunks into a WW2 re-enactment? Obviously an old skill, long forgotten.
