In the past I have converted 1" UNF long nut tap into a stay tap. Simply Loctite a sleeve on to the shank, put it up between centre's, pick the thread up and screw cut the sleeve to suit.

We fitted a new fire box with a tap modified in this way.

Lot cheaper.
