I agree with using Slatters letters. I glued them on with JB weld, and tooled the surface while still soft (you probably have 15-20 minutes working time with JB weld) to remove any excess adhesive. Ultimately they are plastic so won't last forever in a foundry environment, but yes they are very much cheaper.

Thanks for the great advice, I did look at the web site for Artisan Foundry Shop but could only see bigger numbers, love the idea of the plastic numbers for model railway, think I will go that way as only plan on taking one cast off it
