Fowler smokebox door hinge and steering chain

Has anyone got a fowler traction engine (a, r class etc) smokebox door hinge or the pattern for one? Also, a long shot but does anyone have any new old stock steering chain or know any companies which currently make it? Thanks. Paul

Hi Paul
I have the original hinge and the drawing but sadly no pattern. To be honest the hinge would not be difficult to make from a piece of plate or even to fabricate. The smoke box mounted parts of the hinge are also straightforward.

As for steering chain - are you after handmade identical chain or functional chain? I bought a set of ex-military recovery chains which are similar sized. However the big difference is the machine weld which is clearly visible on each link. I plan to grind it of each link when I finish all the other more important jobs!

Dan has sent me details for a company that are making new chains, I'm not too bothered about the welds but will see what they can do! Any chance of lending steve your hinge and the drawing so he can fab one? I think I have the remains of one half but not the part which goes on the door!
