I've only been to Thursford once, and found it totally depressing. Hopeless for photography. Won't be going again.

I enjoyed my visit to Thursford a few years back. I think it's a bit tasteless and without soul, but the engines and other exhibits gathered together by George Cushing are stored in a dry and secure environment. In the future more of the collection may be sold and we'll be able to see these engines live again.
Stef.

I love it. 'No where else will you find engines that have not been touched since working days, sport plenty of original paint and lining, and working day features like bolt on rubbers. The Christmas bit is naff though I agree.

Couldn't agree more kev, last time I went I spent absolutely ages just looking at the GND tractor and Road Loco in the top corner, I would personally rather see them preserved as they are than bulled up on a rally field devoid of all their original patina and character. It would however be nice if all the engines could be lined up in one hall with access all the way around them, and all the Christmas crap shoved in another room...
