I was talking to him at the Statfold “Do” and he told me of several improvements that although fairly minor, make the model much more usable. The particular mod I’m interested in is how he improved the pump. I would really like to send him an email; can anyone put me in touch? I am happy to give my email address in a PM if anyone can forward it or perhaps someone could ask if they can forward his email address to me... Whichever way, any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Michael
Andy Whirledge has shown his engine for many years in the Leicestershire/Derbyshire area and I gained a lot of advice from him, much of which I incorporated in my model and have described on here previously. He very kindly let me have a drive of his engine while mine was in its early stages, adding considerably to my enthusiasm!

He advised staying the pump platform to the wagon frame to stop it flexing and take stress of the riveted flange off the horn plate. I think he also suggested enlarging the bore as much as the casting would allow to reduce reliance on the injectors.

I don't have his contact details, so can't help but maybe the number on the side of his wagon could give a clue!

Hi John,

Yes, I had thought of the phone number on the lorry but I’m not that brave!

I’m sure the gentleman said something about an extra non-return valve somewhere on the pump pipework – I should have written it down because I think he said it made a considerable difference - hence trying to make contact.

I will send you a PM very soon as I want to ask you a couple of questions...

Michael
