Extraordinary Juvenile Roundabout
There is an very special, extraordinary juvenile roundabout for sale in Germany,
which is for sale and very much worth to be saved!
First of all I am not the vendor and I just know those people but no other interest than just
saving this ride.
For sale is a German juvenile roundabout of the now long gone German maker Wilhelm Hennecke of Uelzen.
This was once a very popular type of ride and I believe most Germans once have ridden in one of their
rides as they started building them in 1923 and the company finished in 1974. In their heyday they were building
hundred sets a year and even exported overseas as far as Southern America.
The owners do not want to travel it any longer due to health reasons. As being an old ride, which needs some
time to be built up, there is nobody interested in buying it over here, so there idea is currently to sell the cars and scrap the
rest. The roundabout and all vehicles, and all tarpaulins are in perfect condition, some were professionally painted only last autumn.
The roundabout was last used in the Christmas period last year;
it was build up from end of November until January 6th 2016 on a market square.
It is still TÜV-checked and insured and ready to operate in every way.
There is one single electric motor under the cover in the middle of the roundabout that is driving,
the spinning centre and the spider-like arms .
Attached to these arms, are the vehicles, big ones singly, the sport cars and tractors side by side and the
scooters and motor bikes three abreast. Motorbikes and scooters have platforms so it`s impossible
that children’s feet touch the track, as all vehicles roll on pneumatic tires, so the riders are having a
real life-like feeling. The doors of Tram, the big cars and the locomotive are having handles only on the outside,
plus an additional hatch so that they cannot be opened from the inside.
The driving position on the sport cars is very deep so that it`s not easy for children to climb out.
For additional interest most vehicles have their own horn, or bell, plus dummy steering wheels that keep
the children busy while they ride.
The drive feeling is very much like a real driving, as the vehicles slightly bounce and rattle on the circular wooden track.
The Hennecke ride that is for sale now is the type IV, a four-poster, of 9.8m diameter, of about 1970 vintage.
They sold as the roundabout separately and you ordered the vehicles as you wanted.
They vendors family, actually the Grandfather bought it new, opted for:
2 small tractors
1 big fire engine
1 big police car
1 Porsche car
1 Mercedes car
1 Alfa car
1 Austin car
3 Motor-scooter Vespa-like
3 Harley –Davidson like Motorbikes
1 Locomotive
1 big Tram
I believe this is the complete list.
They also have the original pay-Booth as in the catalogue, however they might want to keep that as they have two further juvenile roundabouts of the same maker. (But I believe that is also negotiable.)
If I remember right they are packed in lorry-type trailers, which are part of the deal. I could well imagine that they even would be willing to help to bring the roundabout over here.
The only modernised part is the starting electronics. Originally it had a salt-starter but those are now for long not allowed in this part of the world any more. So the starter now even stops the roundabout in the ever same position, so that the mothers do not have to chase for their kids.
Please excuse that I mainly took pics of the two vehicles that were of interest to me, at that time I did not think of the full roundabout set at all.
The ride lives close to Bremen, a harbour town in Northern Germany with Airport and connection to several English towns by Ryanair.
The price for the complete roundabout including their transport truck or trailer will be about €20,000, but I believe that is negotiable.
I hope this is clearly explained.
Please do not hesitate to come back to me if you have any questions.
Thanks for helping me to save this special part of fairground history.
George.
