Will the engine be going back to roller form?
So Dan - did this work with mine then. Both were Dunmow rollers. How many did the yard have, cause I thought NO1226 was there too for a while.

Fairly certain yes, NO1224 spent most of its working life based Dunmow. I have NO1226 working in and around Colchester at least until the second world war.

A few of engines seemed to have swapped around during the war (My engine appears to have moved from Chelmsford depot to Newport during this period. My guess would be covering gaps for engines being used for war work.. airfields etc, hopefully will find some more evidence to support this in time.

Also when an engine needed major boiler work it was typically summoned to the Chelmsford central works depot and a replacement engine sent out.

NO5894 was sold off in 1954 with a few other rollers the council deemed 'non economical to repair’.

Not sure if they are the same but would be worth following up on the slide valve Avelings being converted at the moment if the headstocks, rolls etc would fit your later machine. Be nice to see one of the ECC f types back in steam, with four of them surviving just about.
