Kevin I've always thought that as well but never have seen any real documentation. As to the absence of Port Huron engines in the lower Midwest, While they were very popular in the upper Midwest of the country they seldom were sold very far south, more of a regional thing at the time. Some have ventured further south in recent times but most of those are sidelined due to the need to get major boiler renovation.

That's what I like about you boys out in the States, when it comes to wood sawing you don't mess about. Lovely set of tackle and you're not frightened to use it.

I'm really interested to see a British saw bench up close and how they work. They do the same job as a north American saw mill, but their design is a very different philosophy.

The saw mill crews at steam shows work very hard to keep things safe. No pratting about tolerated.
