Was Brian Morgan's showman's engine finally in steam or is the coal between the back wheels just for effect?

I was unable to attend with 'Blackbeard' due to being at Old Warden with previous commitments but looks like you got the good weather up north while I buggered off down south and got cold and wet.

That Aveling roller is interesting, I spoke to the chap at Dorset, a piston valve engine with a 14xx headstock, now my hearing is not perfect, 20 years of Aveling ownership! but I,m, sure he said that it was ordered for export with a heavier front end, thus the non standard front end, does that mean they were already casting those headstocks, and is this the first Aveling with one?

Oh yea.....

Still have a few issues as it was one of its first outings in steam. The crank makes a heck of a thump when turning, so I think the right-hand bearing is misaligned...job for the winter.

All the best,

Brian

Dave, never give up your day job!

It might just be a waste of petrol going up to Scotland when you do your stint at the Edinburgh Fringe...

(and I offered to include you in our chip run on Sat evening)

All the best,

Brian
