The original Kingston Flyer was based on Rogers Locomotives. Now AB locomotives made by NZR are used, I am no expert but think they were made in the 1920's-30's. If you were to Google Kingston Flyer I am sure you will find a lot more detail. Essentially it is now a tourist venture but originally the train and Earnslaw were run by NZR as there was no road around Lake Wakatipu.

Brings back great memories when I visited in 1987. If I remember correctly you could buy a 4 pint jug of beer on the Earnslow for consumption whilst you cruised the lake. Both TSS Earnslaw & Kingson Flyer are both well worth a visit.
