[Pedlers mate]

Just home from Cornwall after a wonderful weekend. Very many thanks to Steve Symes and the ''Kernow Steam Team'' for all the work that went into 'Harvest Home'. For me it has to be up there as one of the best events I've ever attended. Against all the odds, even the weather was good (on the Saturday, at least). Real threshing, real ploughing and in such a beautiful setting. I hope Harvest Home goes from strength to strength.

There was a very warm welcome from all the crews, and It was good to meet several TT'ers for the first time, thankyou to all again.

I was sorry to have missed you Colin as I went on the Sunday and arrived about lunch time. It was a little bit chilly then but I agree with you it was a very good event and I hope that Steve runs it again next year. I am glad that you managed to escape from Cornwall without I hope paying for the privilege by using the A30. I managed to get a good set of photos and Charlie D very kindly lent me some rally programmes at the event which will prove to be a great help to me during the compilation of my new book. It was great to meet up with the different engine owners many of whom i am getting to know by name now due to my attendances at local rallies and through my articles for Vintage Spirit.

This was a really good event and one which will round the season off nicely in Devon and Cornwall.

Yep, Chris is more than great, he came to us to enjoy the weekend with NO charge, all the way from Glos, how many would do that ?

Would like to say a big thank you to all that attended tractor boys included ! was a great working weekend with no hitchs at all . Another big thank you goes to the land owner ( my boss !! ) Rundle weldhen for use of his land, for the wheat for thrashing and the field for ploughing the tractor and tanker , an extra tractor to push ploughers in to ploughing field ( slight up hill that was tad slippy ) and the point to point shed with bar for use onfor both days including evening and other machinery for tidying up after event . I wonder how many land owners out there would give all this with no charge ? many thanks ! biggest thanks goes as said before to those who attended , will hopefully be meetings very soon between rundle and steve to start organising for next year .

Events like this and our thrashing day at the windmill seem to be well supported and are always greatly enjoyed by all. Amazingly, free entry didn't stop us raising £2000 for the mill funds. Like wise we are grateful for the support of land owners and for exhibitors who come gratis from miles around. Long may they continue!

Purely as a point of interest, which ploughed the field the best, Internal Combustion Tractor or Steam Ploughing Engines?

Jon, the belt was great, even stayed on with us being out of line with drum, due to sinking !!!!!!!

The ploughs that the tractor boys use are set up much better than the plough for the engines, it is far more important that people get the chance to see the way steam ploughing was done rather than how good it is !!!
