Default Carters Steam Fair, Pickneys Green - 12 May 2012

On my way back from Hollycombe today I dropped into Carters Steam Fair at Pinkneys Green. The site was a bit soft but it could have been worse. There was gridlock outside the fair and many people were walking to the site from Maidenhead town centre so I think they were doing as well as they were hoping to.

Four Showmans engines were there generating:

Burrell Showmans Road Locomotive 2877 "His Majesty"
Burrell Showmans Road Locomotive 3288 "Nancy"
Burrell Showmans Road Locomotive 3489 "King George VI"
Garrett Showmans Tractor 33374 "Verity"

It was a really good event, starting with a road run through Maidenhead town centre. But equally interesting was watching them get the engines into position over the boggy entrance - with Carters staff laying boards in front of the engines and then lifting them and re-positioning them again once the engine had run, or been pushed, over them. Here are just a few of my photos.

Tasker tractor has sent me these great pictures to post of King George VI heading through Henley on their way to Pinkneys Green last week. Particularly like the last one going over the Thames bridge in Henley past the "Engine Drivers Must Only Take One Loaded Truck Over" sign.
