I attended the Road Locomotive Society 75th Birthday celebrations at Hollycombe today. To coincide with this milestone the society has published a new book, a history of John Allen & Sons by Jonathan Brown. There was also a vast amount of historic Allen photograph and documents to view - a really impressive display.
The unique Allen ploughing engine which lives at Hollycombe has received much attention over the winter and was in steam especially for the launch and looked superb in the sunshine:
An interesting engine owned by at TT member that I had not seen before was Aveling & Porter 8974:
Many of the other Hollycombe engines were in steam too:
An added bonus was Burrell 3984 which belonged to the late Geoff Gilbert, a former RLS president, was in steam at Bicknell's works, just down the road from Hollycombe.
A lovely day for looking at engines, chatting and taking photographs.
