Something I have heard is that the revenue to keep the museum operating is generated from the Christmas shows and the Christmas attractions and not from the museum during the rest of the year. If the Christmas shows didn't take place the museum wouldn't exist. So whatever we think we should be pleased that the founder, George Cushing, had the foresight to save these engines many years ago.
