Could you make one out of a whistle valve and use it as a push button? I've never been a fan of the Aveling type 1/4 turn simpling valves and would like to change mine when it is restored.

You need a decent size valve to get the volume of steam through. The one on the Marshall is of that design, but about the size of a 1inch BSP whistle valve.

When I get to drive Mr Milns GTI roller, I quite like the 1/4 turn cock, if you set them so the handle down is shut you can get it to open with a flick of the wrist, and it will close itself with the weight of the handle.

Also, a side valve Aveling is like the Marshall in that its not live steam, whearas the Burrell you are used to is.
