simpling valve
Does anyone have a simpling valve suitable for a 1904 compound slide valve Aveling roller please?
PM or email lee.chadderton@hotmail.co.uk Many thanks, Lee. |
overhead valves or side valves?
|
Ah yes, sorry, side valves mate.
|
James Cummins - Universal Steam Engineering would be able to supply a new one.

Shame, coz I have a spare ohsv one, but would rather have as a spare, but willing to help out if required.

why not simply use a 1/2 BSP 1/4 turn azy packed plug cock?.
As far as I was aware thats essentially what yours is on 'The Pirate' Tryst, only later did they fit the push button type. One with screwed fittings like this http://www.ibhs.co.uk/uploads/images_products/933.jpg http://www.ibhs.co.uk/popuplargeimag...20Plug%20Valve £18.40 plus some very awfull tax at HSS, probably with you the following day too. Just need to make the pipework, and a handle and rod then your good to go |
Many thanks, never thought of that, cheers.

Could you make one out of a whistle valve and use it as a push button? I've never been a fan of the Aveling type 1/4 turn simpling valves and would like to change mine when it is restored.

When I get to drive Mr Milns GTI roller, I quite like the 1/4 turn cock, if you set them so the handle down is shut you can get it to open with a flick of the wrist, and it will close itself with the weight of the handle. Also, a side valve Aveling is like the Marshall in that its not live steam, whearas the Burrell you are used to is. |
