![]() Im willing to learn. But I took it to a trailer building in are village and left it with him. When I went back he had a plug tap that he has owned for years had never used and it fits like a glove and stamped on the tap say 5/8 unc 14tpi
An old fella tried telling me how to suck an egg once. You learn something new each day old lad! |

![]() Ok.
Next, possibly dull, question. Is the stud definitely 5/8" outside diameter? If we ignore the UNC bit - 5/8 x 14 is a standard 5/8" BSF. The latter are readily available as plain high tensile nuts. The only problem is that BSF is a 55 degree thread, not 60 degree as in a UNC form. Cheers Carl. |

![]() Haven't got that far yet. The axles are off an old brewery cart used in Liverpool 1940s. I used them to build my living van. The nuts have worn over time. Im just replacing them, to make life easier if I was to get a flat tyre. Didn't really want to take a stud off. I have tried different nuts off all ages of trailers. I have tried a 5/8 unc 11tpi. But its to fine. Im not clued up with the machining part of the job. I wish I was. Would have saved me a fortune over the years. I will try and get my hands on a 5/8 bsf and see what its like. Will let you know. Many thanks
