Burrell 3631 also had pneumatics fitted, I presume it was to make the steering easier, the front axle with hubs is still knocking around the yard somewhere. I'll take a picture next time i trip over it. |

![]() Quite a lot of 'timber' engines ended up on blow ups on the front.
I have always assumed this is because my experience shows me that engines tend to be very heavy on the front and dig in when the going is not good. I would have expected blow ups to improve matters, they are usually wider and would present a larger area to spread the load. Not only that but they would provide buoyancy!

![]() I believe a spare front wheel was carried within the back wheel during its working day.
As also noted above great to see "Black Jack" back on her wheels again... lovely old engine and an old favourite. I see she has lost her very distinctive and wide brass chimney top. Jim |
