TSS Earnslaw & Kingston Flyer
Twenty five years ago along with 3 Burrells I drove to Kingston on my Marshall to help celebrate the TSS Earnslaws 75 year anniversary. It seemed fitting to attend the 100 year celebrations. Two of us drove from Southland, a Garrett Wagon and 8Hp 2 speed Marshall were trucked up and 2 McLarens and 2 Burrells were transported from Canterbury. We were joined by a resident Queenstown Fowler. We assembled on the waterfront to greet the Earnslaw as she came back from re-enacting her maiden voyage fom Kingston. This was followed by a road run to Arrowtown and then on to Gibbston and return. The scenery is quite spectacular although the snow was a bit lower on the hills than normal for this time of the year.

The original Kingston Flyer was based on Rogers Locomotives. Now AB locomotives made by NZR are used, I am no expert but think they were made in the 1920's-30's. If you were to Google Kingston Flyer I am sure you will find a lot more detail. Essentially it is now a tourist venture but originally the train and Earnslaw were run by NZR as there was no road around Lake Wakatipu.
