Llandudno 2012 Saturday

We normally stay over the weekend but the weather forecast was poor so we didn't book. However, Saturday looked promising so we were up and off by 06:00 and were eating a bacon roll on the front at 07:30 in the cold sunshine. It stayed fine all day, you could see the I.O.M. from the top of the Orme. We went on the field to look at the trucks, then around the town chatting to old friends while they prepared for the procession. As we stood taking photo's, some of the engine men were waving at us and the little crowd around us thought we were experts and we ended up giving a commentary on each engine that passed by. In the evening we were invited to go on the road run to Conwy on the 1948 Foden 2 stroke bus, calling for fish and chips on the way back. Overall a great day out.

There was a reason posted last year...but it still seems a bit odd.

I have asked it seems there is no steel wheels allowed in the town so they will not have my Aveling on strakes !!! but then Allen Eaton Fowler went so I think it depends who you are and what you have !!!!

Have to see if Alistair or Tony would be allowed in with rubber boots on their rollers...

I have never understood the set up at Llandudno. I can understand that they don't want steel on the roads but there is a "separate" rally on the fields above the town where the trucks, tractors, stationaries, stalls etc are located. It is a big field and it would be great to see some steam engines on there, be it rollers, other steel shod engines, more minatures and so on.

I don't know if it's the same committee or not but I'm sure for the size of the town, more could be done.

I also got the impression this year that there were not so many additional 'street theatre' acts.

Maybe someone who exhibits there could comment?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great event but it seems to be lacking given the potential.
