Default Fowler K7 16646 Jack of Herts (for sale)

I have decided to put both my steam engines up for sale to finance another (3 speed) steam related project, so it is with some reluctance that I am looking to speak with anyone who might be interested in buying one of my engines.

This advert is for Fowler 16646 K7 Ploughing engine Jack of Herts

Sold by Fowlers in 1926 the engine went ‘new’ to Reading Corporation for use at Manor farm, the corporations ‘soil farm’. The engine was used for dredging their silt ponds and also pulled a single furrow, 4 foot deep plough; the engine was apparently supplied from Fowlers stock at the time.
In 1939 the engine was sold to W. Wilder and Sons at Crowmarsh where it worked to the end of steam ploughing and cultivating and then went on to work as the power plant for Chorleywood Sawmill in Hertfordshire (the engine still carries its plate from this works to this day). Sold into preservation and purchased by Charles Roads, in 1975 the engine was restored by Charles and Roy Lipscombe before starting its preserved life.
The engine underwent a full boiler restoration in 2008 and is now in great working condition, its last working outing was at the Steam Plough Clubs, Great Challenge (Sept 2013) where it performed very well.

Last year rubber Caterpillar Challenger Tracks were fitted to the rear wheels (bolted via the spud holes, and so easily removed if required) this has greatly increased the engines roading ability.

The engine has a recent wire rope and comes complete with a full set of fire irons, new spark arrester and original fittings and is in full (ready to work) condition. The engine carries a set of original Fowler governors and will be equally happy on belt work, Fowlers ‘marketed’ K7 engines as ‘farmer’s engines’ for dual duties (ploughing and belt work)

The engine was issued with a new full ticket for 2014/15 yesterday (6th April)

Give me a call or drop me a line if you would like to express an interest or to find out more deatils

Thank you.
