Default North Norfolk Steam Tour

The North Norfolk Steam Tour is taking place over the early May Bank Holiday weekend. Organised by the East Anglian Traction Engine Society the run starts at Thursford, home of the Thursford Collection founded by the late George Cushing. From Thursford the engines will travel to Holt, terminus of the North Norfolk Railway, where they will stay Saturday night. On Sunday the route takes us to Scottow, where we will spend the evening at the Rugby Club, before, on Monday, travelling across to Strumpshaw Steam Museum.

Among the engines entered for the run is the Burrell 5nhp Showman’s Engine Margaret, which worked for Henry Thurston from new. Four Burrell Showman’s Engines that were owned and worked by the Norwich branch of the Thurston family are featured in the Thursford Collection.

The run takes in a number of places of interest, including, on Saturday, Melton Constable, which was the home of the engineering centre of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway. The Sunday lunch stop is at the Buckinghamshire Arms, adjacent to Blickling Hall. After lunch we pass the Bure Valley Railway in Aylsham, and Buxton Mill.

We would love to see plenty of the public in attendance during the run, which is raising money for the Lymphoma Association. Also, if anyone would be interested in taking part, or helping marshalling etc., or would like further details please contact Ollie Owen on 07775508067 or email Michael Pumfrey on mrpumfrey@tractionengines.com
