Trevithic ovoids
Has anyone got a couple of bags spare of the Trevithic ovoids. Want to try some on the engine but don't want to buy a ton if it doesn't like them. North West Lancs, Will buy.

If you really want the experience then buy a few bags of home fire ovals, these I would say burn very similarly.
I've used both on our miniature and both produced very similar results, fine for static beer tent work but rapidly ran out of puff if you wanted to do something, also produced lots of ash. One last recent thing I've found is the Trevithic ovoids really dont like getting wet and tended to go a bit mushy, yet my home fire ovals dont really get effected at all, yes they get wet but the Trevithic's seemed to really absorb the water. |

I would say they were quite forgiving when it comes to being ignored for a really long time, where as proper coal I've found will just die, the Trevithic's and the Homefire ovals while looking like they were dead still held enough heat to re-lite some fresh or worst case light up a bit of wood.
This does make for an interesting shut down though as they seem to be able to hold a low level of heat for ruddy hours, I've even found the grate and ash pan to still be warm to hot the next morning when I've run on either, compared to regular welsh which is pretty much cold after just a few hours. This is all on a miniature I will say. |
