Default Tavistock Steam Fair - 5 June

Sunday 5 June marked the 26th year of the Tavistock Steam Fair, which is organised by The Robey Trust Ltd.

Whilst the engines were being steamed up at The New Perseverance Iron Works, the mayor and mayoress of Tavistock, Town Crier and Deputy Mayor of West Devon, along with The Robey Trusts Chairman, Dave Davies and the Steam Fairs Coordinator, Rodney Ford, had met at the Bedford Hotel for a short informal reception. They then headed over to the steam fair for the official opening at 11am. The Town Crier announced the event open in his usual manner: a superb announcement! A tour around the fair followed, and a ride behind a steam engine had around town.

The public not only enjoyed Robey steam engine rides around the town, but also 2 visiting engines came, there was a large array of entertainment, trade stalls and attractions available, too. A Steam Car and London Bus was also doing rides, as well as Mary Phillips giving tractor rides. There was an impressive and large display of miniature steam engines, tractors, and vintage, military and classic cars and motorcycles.

In The Wharf, there was a small display of model engineering, meccano models, and replicas of machinery and stationary engines, as well as the Plymouth 'G' Scale Group, who had 2 model trains around the stage on tracks.

Definitely an event with something for everyone in it. The weather was perfect – the atmosphere brilliant - and all seemed to enjoy a very successful day.

The Robey Trust would like to thank everyone who came along, all the volunteers and crew who helped on the day, and all our visitors and traders who made the event what it was. We are very much looking forward to next year!
