![]() It has no purpose, it is a folly, built in the late 1800's I believe by unemployed local workers and paid for by the then landowner. There are several dotted about, all different. The one on the showfield is called the Rose Tower. Incidentally the landowner was a reknowned local character nicknamed Jack The Treacle Eater. Please don't ask why. haha.

Why? We had a conversation about the tower as well, but came up with no constructive answer, so when asked by two punters on Sunday afternoon the first was told it was for housing 'doves', and the second was informed it was a 'Scandinavion Pizza Oven' and that replicas could be found in Ikea, they seemed to go away happy enough. |

![]() The four follies are said to have been built to mark the four compass points at the limits of the park....... Messiter's Cone is also known as the Rose Tower.
