Joe’s Steam Rally at Easter Compton Oct 10th Show Report.
Joe Nemeth and just a handful of others organised this event in just 6 weeks. The excellent weather added a bit of Basso for exhibitors and public, attendance this year was just under one thousand. As with many established events the traction/roller section was only a small part of the show as many sections were indoors, like the classic car section which felt more like a museum.
The two separate running railways had a good length of track i.e. 2ft gauge 100m track was travailed by Hunslet engines company’s Statfold and 10 ¼ gauge 200m by Robin Hood.
Dan Nemeth also had his own design made 2ft gauge Lister Diesel that runs on petrol! don’t ask me it’s what he said, First trial did not go to well as the magneto went faulty, but the comment was that’s ok I have a rebuilt one on the self! 5minutes later the express train was off down the track.
The Kemble flying club also had their display, it was quite amusing watching the acrobatics planes above the farm builds, my favourite was Concorde fly pass being close to Bristol.
The “Crossvile” buses gave ride locally around Easter Compton as there was quite a queue at times.
Military vehicle’s and Trike were also on display this year and will be the start of a much larger collection next year.
The excellent food supplied by the Canteen staff was excellent, food was waitress’ed all day to drivers by willing lady staff members; also a farm shop on site was a available.
By Midday the success of the show caused Joe to state that it will be a two day event next year with even more attractions for us all! Already exhibitors were phoning around asking for future interested parties for next year.
If you are interested in becoming an exhibitor or would like to help out for next years event please contact Joe (just search for Joe Nemeth Engineering on Google for contact details).
Final note - Thanks Joe and Dan for all the hard work and enjoyment you gave us all.
