Matched large Tap & Die - Can Anyone Help Pls?
Ladies & Gentlemen,
I'm in need of a large matched bottom tap and die set for the front face on my Cylinder Block for half size Clayton Steam Lorry. I'm after one of the following: o M30 o M35 o M40 o 1.25" o 1.5" Or anything in between. Don't mind what thread type (BSF Whitworth Etc Etc) so long as they are a matched set. Don't mind if set is incomplete so long as have bottom tap plus Die. Preferably British made. Happy to purchase or Hire, Kind regards, Andrew

I don't have much in the way of taps & dies as I work mainly in wood, so can't help directly.
When I've had need to borrow anything like this, I've paid a visit to one or other of my "local" heritage railways to scrounge a loan. Did something similar when I needed a 3"+ socket recently, although I have now bought an example of said socket for planned future use.

Tracy Tools, they're on the web, new kit at very good price. By the time you have messed about borrowing/hiring knackered gear you'll really wish you had gone to them in the first place. Been there got the tee shirt.

Many thanks to all who responded and gave excellent advice. As a result I have now resolved my problem and can successfully continue by build. Along the way I came across a German Tap Die Seller of New / Used Taps & Dies of All Sizes - having 3,000 plus in stock. Hi Andrew,
as you are quite flexible with the size of thread and probaly will only use it once or twice e-bay should be a good source ? At least ove here a set would be around 40 quid in reasonable conditions ... Best christoph
