Malpas on Saturday night seemed just grand from where I was sat - on the steps of the war memorial with x25 other engine line reprobates.

The chip shop didn't run out (although could get a little confused when hit by so many people arriving all at once), the pubs didn't seem to mind engine smoke spewing through open windows and people through their open doors (no bouncers to turn people away), the Co-Op was able to provide deserts for those so inclined. Mr Kohut entertained not only the bride-to-be, but also all the onlookers as he gave her and her hen night a steamy experience in the high street, and BA's mum struck lucky and was escorted away in style by a military land rover sporting a varied array of antenna and comms equipment.

Oh, and the car section leader was seen there with his Austin, a couple of tractors came from somewhere, and the S6 turned up at some point probably having toured most of Cheshire enroute from the rally field.

I couldn't comment on the 'evening entertainment' put on by the organisers - I came to the conclusion some years ago that nights spent on the Malpas rally field are a rather uneventful, loney and uninspiring experience as everything shuts down and people return to the comfort of their family/friends in their caravans once the day's arena events have finished. The fact the nights are drawing in and it's dark pretty early doesn't help either. However that is very much a personal opinon based upon my own experience, and I dare say most other people would not be able to relate to my own times spent there in the past.

For me the highlight of the weekend was a stonking run on Sunday night in glourious early autumn evening sun, safety valves feathering and a procession of interesting old vehicles zipping past on the main road. The run over on Friday was nice too, especially being able to meet up with others doing the same trip for a swift drinky part way - an unusual experience compared to normal.

Lol we had a run out to the pub ourselves, which was grand, but coming back onto the site and finding the chippy had run out of chips was disappointing. it went down hill from there for me, as per I explained.
