Very Large, loud steam whistle by MD Whistles of America see their web site
http://www.mdwhistles.com/photo.htm. Ideal for any rail or road steam engine
The whistle is just a few years old and a well-made replica of a New York 6 Chime - see link on the MD Web site for a sound file Soundfiles/dmsp6chimesteam.mp3. There are also quite a few sound clips on you-tube if you can’t make this link work
I bought the new 1 1/4 inch (one and a quarter inch BSP) whistle valve from Mike (at MD whistles) about 2 years ago - it’s a great idea to have the proper valve for these whistles so you can blow them to best effect. The bronze whistle valve will come complete with the black iron fittings shown in the pictures and includes a blanking cap to be fitted after you remove the whistle from the engine (safer overnight on some rally fields)
The base of the whistle is tapped with a 1 1/2 (one and a half inch) BSP Thread – all the threads are in perfect condition.
The whistle stands 17 inches tall (not including the display stand which is also included in the price) and is 8 inches in diameter at the widest point
I have blown the whistle from 50 pounds up to 200 pounds and it works nicely through that range
I am told the whistle can be heard about 2 miles away, I am not sure of that but it’s definitely loud and makes a great sound (I had this whistle on my Fowler for a season and it certainly makes heads turn on the rally field)
Due to its weight, I think this will be better collected from Crowthorne, Berkshire, cash on collection. I am happy to post it if that’s what you require, so please ask for a postage quote but be aware it’s very heavy. I do travel around the UK for work so I might be able to meet the winning bidder and hand over the whistle – call me on 07785 276907 to discuss. The whistle is also on Ebay item no 261182197224 so please take a look at the pictures there. If you are interested, give me a call and lets discuss what you think its worth. Thanks for looking – Dave 07785 276907
