Have you considered purchasing a structurally knackered 200tdi Defender or Discovery (of which there are many)? Whip out the engine and break/weigh-in the rest. It's perfectly plausible to break even that way; with the added bonus of able to see the engine running.

Why not put a 300TDi in instead?

Thanks guys for all your input. Its a turbo D 90 county station wagon, very good condition but with a dropped liner. Another garage condemed it and we have ended up with it. The 200 fits straight in but they are like rocking horse poo to find. They are quite diferent to the Disco 200. I want it to look like a genuine conversion.

The 300 will fit but to make nice job of it apparently you really need to mount it further forward so the pipes etc line up. Otherwise its rammed under the bulk head. It requires a longer first motion shaft in the box along with bell housing so its a recon modified box. Nice but a bit more time than i wanted to spend. You also need to weld new mounts on.

I do love 90s!!! They are great! Seriously.

With a bit of tweeking a disco 200 will fit into a 90 or 110. The turbo exits in a different position& direction but this can be turned radially as the the turbo unit is on a great heavy circlip. tweek this to the desired direction to corrispond with the nessessary pipework. I also fabricated a heavy down pipe from thick wall hydraulic pipe from the exhaust manifold along with a few other alterations. I was surprised just how easy it was to do!
