I am told that cast iron welding in Coalville can do miracles with the similar design Marshall cast headstocks, perhaps worth giving them a try?

Good idea Hedd , but because the headstock doubles as a very inadequate smokebox and chimney base they can get very thin . Not really one of Fowlers' best bits of design .

Cast Iron welding services did a lovely job with my headstock it was in two pieces they also built up the thin areas at the same time. It wasn't exactly cheap but im sure it was a lot less than getting a new one cast. I wouldn't be tempted to try welding it myself as it's is a specialist job and would end up costing more to put right afterwards than it would to get it done in the first place.
