Did flywheel brakes tend to be faced with leather or something? I have one that I've not yet re-fitted to my fowler and the wood block has had something pinned to it. In the working day photos you can see it had a lot of use as the flywheel rim is well polished.

Interestingly mine is a Leeds company (cant remember the name) fitted to a Fowler engine so a bought in piece, that's if it was fitted from new.
