I have to thin my collection out and its been a tough decision but I am going to sell my 1966 Highwayman ballast tractor. Its had a nut and bolt restoration and is in perfect running order, those of you who know me may have seen it towing our semi trailer in 2013. GTW is around 28 tons which it handles with ease. It has a 680 power plus Leyland engine and I have replaced the slow axle with a fast one so it will top 50 but sits happily at 45 mph loaded. Even returns 7 mpg loaded, quite a bit more running light. Its a proper bit of kit and is in effect a new lorry. It was new to Pickfords Glasgow depot in 1966, then went to Teesside engineering as a shunter. It was completely overhauled between April 2006 and 2011. It doesn't have a winch but I have made provision for one to be fitted. The tow hitch has fairleads in it and I have a PTO that could be modified to drive a hydraulic pump. The passenger seat is from an old unit that had a winch so there is plenty of space to fit one in the usual place for a Highwayman
I am not putting an asking price on here as some collectors prefer to not have it broadcast what they have given for a piece of equipment so I shall just say only very serious enquiries please. Ive put a lot into this lorry and I am in no rush to give it away.
I do have a proper fifth wheel dolly which matches the coupling so it will easily couple to most normal fifth wheel trailers. This can be included.
