![]() Chale Show had a magnificent mix of something for everyone over the weekend.
Visitors flocked to the show for its unique blend of entertainment, good shopping opportunities, friendly competition and community spirit. The annual event, its 97th, is one of the biggest and most popular on the Island's entertainments calendar. Chale Recreation Ground is a vast area, so there were oodles of things to see and do. Arguably the most popular, with young and old alike, was Big Pete and the Grim Reaper Monster Trucks team, who performed jaw-dropping stunts in the main arena. There was music by the Vectis Corps of Drums and Medina Marching Band, plus Samba music. And that's not all, there were local bands performing on the Sunflower Music Stage, in support of Mountbatten. Keeping the kids entertained was David Randini, the 'Somewhenever' Story Tent, children’s races and Dingle Fingle, with his comedy car act. Visitors browsed among a variety of craft and trade stalls, as well as sampled an array of mouth-watering grub in the Pavilion. As usual, the horticultural tent was bulging with hundreds of high quality entries from more than 200 classes, with plenty of good-natured rivalry going on as they battled for cash prizes and trophies. Last year, the event raised over £9,500 for local and national charities. |
