![]() Nice photos, the whole setting looks great, shame we were stuck in the shed working but maybe next time. Anyone stay over for the whole weekend? Is it a nice place to stay apart from the steam and vintage aspect?

We parked next to her for a whole week at a GDSF show in the late 90's, and spent quite some time looking over her. A love this D Type. Does anyone know the history of this engine? |

![]() Great photographs!
With reference to Aveling & Porter 3199. Since 2005 the engine has undergone a substantial amount of work. In 2008 severe cracks were discovered in the steam jacket of the cylinder block. Once all avenues of repair had been tried it was decided to condemn the casting. I made the decision at this time to strip the engine and totally rebuild the engine. I've re-ground the crank, manufactured new big and little end bearings. Overhauled the valve gear. New piston rod etc. Re-bored and bushed one of the rear wheels. New weigh shaft, reversing lever quadrant. All boiler fittings have been overhauled among a long list of other jobs. In 2010 a replacement cylinder block was sourced overhauled and fitted. I also took the decision to repaint the engine while stripped down. I was extremely pleased to be able to get the engine back on the road in time for this show as it was an absolute cracker. Rob |
