RE: Fowler T3 Roller Water Pocket Lid

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has or knows of a fowler t3 water pocket lid for sale?
Any information would be much appreciated.

Water pocket lids on the standard size pocket were just a piece of plain 1/8" plate , overlapping the edge of the pocket by about 1/4" . The hinges were very plain items , probably secured by c/s rivets , but c/sunk screws will do very nicely . If it doubles as a footstep , then a piece of old fashioned diamond chequer plate looks good ( as an 'after market' fitting , of course )

The lid is hinged on a plate which it sandwiched between the pocket and the tank.

This is the repaired/ new one, the original (or what was left of it) is just in the bottom picture

Essentially there is a piece of 1/16th plate sandwiched between the pocket and the tender side, the top of which is formed to make the centre part of the lid hinge.

The lid itself is a smidge thicker (cant remember what the original was), one end formed into the hinge front and back.

The lid on mine overhung as shown. I know the lid on 21629 had no overhang. Mine may not have been the original. I decided to keep the bigger version as it acts as a step.

That T3 item is quite different from the standard Fowler semicircular water pocket . I realise that I have never had a look at the T3 item .

This is getting fun now.

This picture shows 16395 (Barneys) and 16392, both new to the same owner!.

Note the brake is on different sides. It looks however that the water lifter is on the nearside on both?

As Barney noted in messages last night. The area is very congested.

I actually now think that the as built method of fitting the lid is a small strip that fits on the top of the pocket towards the back, with two bolts down into the two drilled holes that you can see in my picture. The lid then hinges off that.

The downside of that, due to the small size is you get a hinge right under your boot when steering.

Fowler t3 18637 has the same small water pocket but the lid sits flush making it a small step, a bad idea with muddy boots i rekon? As for the brake handle, hers is on the nearside. Could it be something todo with being ordered with a scarrifier maybe?
