Default S.O.D.E.M. Road Run

It was a little damp at the start of the run today and the weather seemed to have put off some of the engine owners as there were only 4 engines taking part. Nevertheless, the day was enjoyable, as much for the friendliness of the engine crews and spectators as for the engines themselves. Good to meet up with Tricky T, Steve Cockram, Robin Marshman, Trystan (who brought a Foden tractor all the way from Cardiff for the day), Ian Collidge and others for an end of season bash. Thanks must go to the organisers, engine owners and crews for another good day with steam. Here are a few photographs to set the scene:

Considering how bad the weather was at first, turned out nice in the end!

Great photos again Colin. did they serve breakfast in that pub? They seem to have stayed there a long time!

To be honest Jim, they stayed quite a while at several pubs, a bit like the Cornish road runs!

We had a fun filled day. Thanks to all that turned up.
Injector problems from Kempsford to Lechlade slowed progress as running fast on the pump causes a lot of hammer. Then today I lost a tyre section on the way home. The joys of roading steam engines.

Mike

Have you thought of getting a new sat nav? Seems the one you have wants to always take you on the Highworth to Lechalade road, which has not brought you the best of luck recently!

Now, this is the main question, where will the run be next year!

Things drop off it happens. The tyre section started flapping near the big layby (same layby where we lost the chimney Dorset week) so we slowed down a bit as we didn't have the tools to fix or remove we waited till it dropped off the far side of South Marston. Still did the 12 miles in 2 hours.

There was some discussion in the bar about next year

Hook Norton was a good run. That was the last one I was able to see until this year. The roads seemed quieter there, less traffic to get into the photographs.
