You all probably know and I've simply missed the thread about it .... but
www.Kivells.com is auctioning :
* 1884 Steam Roller Aveling & Porter works number 2018.
Log books date back to 1952 with a list of previous owners, the first of which was John Mowlem & Co. The engine was built 1 year before the first motor car and was used to compact stone, the back wheels still have evidence of where the spikes were fitted (as seen in the horse drawn version in Mowlem's picture).
The current owner brought the engine in 1970 and has done a few rallys in the early 70's and three in Cornwall in 1984 when the engine was 100 years old.
In 1992 a new firebox, tubes, tube plate, smoke box and barrel were fitted. The boiler has been inspected and insured ever since with little use.
