Scammell Highwayman 1957, Gardner 6LW
Some of the cab woodwork has been replaced and there’s still a small amount to do. I have all the aluminium panels for the cab which will go straight back on with the exception of the cab back which is steel and has rotted, so will need replacing - the old one is there as a pattern. I have just about every part you should need, including the windscreens and frames, passenger seat, all the lights, mudguard brackets, even the bonnet sides. I also have a fifth wheel from a Highwayman should you want one.
The engine is as sweet as a nut along with the gearbox, both having very good oil pressure, even when on tick over. The steering has very little play, the best I have seen on a Scammell, and there appears to be no air leaks on the brake system but the brakes do need adjusting. The gearbox is fitted with a PTO, so you could fit a winch. This was an Esso tanker with a 9.4 - 1 diff so should be good for around 40 mph, and being Gardner powered will give very good MPG. I have owned Scammells for 34 years so I know a good one when I see one. I am only selling this as I have too many projects.
Good points about this model of Highwayman are:-
1957, MOT and Tax exempt.
Coach built cab so is easy to repair.
Flat windscreens.
20” wheels so tyres should be cheap and plentiful. Twins on rear, all the same size, only one size spare required.
Price £8,500
This should be an easy restoration project and when finished it could be worth two or three times the asking price.
