Default Threshing with Percy

Percy is Fowell 8 nhp agricultural engine no. 108 of 1922. In its first season out and about with a new owner it has covered about 300 miles in Norfolk and Suffolk. Recently it did a proper commercial job as its makers intended, thrashing out some old varieties of long strawed wheat to provide material for thatching.

Winding the belt onto the flywheel.

Ready to go.

Classic thrashing scene. (Well that's how R Eagle Contractors spelt it.)

Going well.

Clear blue sky.

Starting to cloud over.

It rained at lunch time, but cleared up afterwards.

Percy as seen from the drum.

Pitching.

Low autumn sunlight.

One output from the work.

The main object of the exercise - trusses of long straw for thatching.

The one they were looking for - the last sheaf.

If you've read this far, thanks very much. I know it's rather a lot of photos on one subject, but it was a memorable day.
Bill.
