The milestone 50th annual steam fair, at Havenstreet, was a huge success with large crowds visiting the four-day event.

Hundreds of steam engines, historic vehicles, motorcycles, tractors and military exhibits were on view over the weekend.

Steam Railway CEO, Marc Morgan-Huws, said: “It was brilliant, the weather was great and we have had really positive feedback.

“People have said it was the best one ever and there was a real buzz about the place. A new feature was a one-day ticket which people could use to return over the rest of the weekend and this proved very popular.

“50 years is a great achievement for any show and this was a wonderful way to celebrate a special milestone.”

Highlights included James and Anthony Horton’s ‘Galloping Horses’ carousel, and Alan Blyth’s swing-boats, offering children a taste of vintage fairground fun. Mike Venn’s miniature Burrell traction engine travelled from Yorkshire, while Imperial College students will drive their 109-year-old Dennis fire engine from London to Portsmouth.

The 50th anniversary featured silly traction-engine games, and a real ale bar, curated by Derek Bishop, who has supported every Steam Show since its inception.
