In the season of big steam events we're living up to the county motto of "Do different" with some small scale activity.
South Walsham Windmill Open Day
This is a full size, new build, traditional Norfolk windmill - an amazing and beautiful structure - which is home to beautifully restored A&P 10T compound, piston valve roller no. 10695.
Burrell 10T roller no. 3942 is undergoing the same treatment.
Visiting was Marshall no. 54486 'Woodton Lady', owned by the Norfolk Steam Engine Club.
Also visiting was this half size version of Burrell's smallest engine, their 3T 'Special Light Traction Engine' of 1898. (See drawings in Ronald Clark's books'.)
It is dwarfed by Woodton Lady. (That's a steam drainage pump in the background.)
Windmills give a good aerial view.
The mill itself may not be steam, but it is a thing of great beauty and, I'm sure, would be of interest to many TT members.
Lophams' Vintage Rally
Sadly the organisers' efforts to initiate a new local 'do' were almost drowned out. I hope they'll try again next year.
Well known local Ruston & Hornsby TE no. 113043 'Oliver', belonging to the Wheeler family, wearing its raincoat.
It did dry up enough to uncover 'Oliver' and its saw bench.
Two other participants were Fowell TE no. 108 'Percy', out and about this year for the first time after a 40 year lay-up and Burrell SRL no. 3833 'Queen Mary' from the Burrell Museum.
