At the Fig Pie Wakes in Wybunbury, Cheshire, every year children, women and grown men, including the local MP roll pre-baked pies down a hill to see who can get the furthest (farthest?). A good handful of engines turn up. Hundreds of people turn up. The sun shines and English people do what English people do and enjoy a day in the rare sunshine and enjoy a bit of eccentricity.
