Second-hand boiler tubes from recently withdrawn railway locomotive.
Size 1 3/4" o.d. x 10 gauge, 8-9 feet long, suitable for some Burrell engines. This batch of tubes were fitted in March 2009 and has been subject to forty-nine steamings. The loco was withdrawn from service in November 2009 for a heavy general overhaul; hence the tubes have had a very short life. The boiler feed water used has been subject to regular treatment when out on hire. At the Severn Valley Railway the water has been passed through a reverse-osmosis plant, although a small amount of surface corosion is noticeable.
