If someone comes along with the money and puts it on the table and you're happy with you'd be silly not to take it, why would they ever consider a lower price if someone else comes up with a better one.

I've sold plenty of stuff over the years and I always say to folks the person who puts the money on the table I'm happy with first gets the deal, I've had many folks start faffing about with "negotiations".
Once had two folks turn up and start bidding up the price  I walked away and said you've seen the item he who pays me the most wins *party think I gained an extra couple of hundred out of that one

Was your "first refusal" a contract you and Legacy signed up in a binding contract ?

Sounds harsh but its business

"negotiation" was about part exchange deal ,proposed on a Friday ,with a promise to contact me on following Monday. Not having heard anything by Thurs, called back to be told" sold at weekend "!Not how I did business. My word was my bond.
