Dordt in Stoom 2024

For those that haven't been here I'll upload some pictures as and when I get a chance.

I'd definitely recommend a visit at least once in your life. Your just need to make sure you book up any accommodation in advance as it's quite scarce in Dordrecht.

For us the trip involved a car trip to Bristol Airport, a flight to Schiphol Airport and then a train to Dordrecht from the airport. The station is walking distance to the town.
It is a bit daunting to travel by your own means especially as the overhead lines had failed somewhere near Dordrect so we had to change trains, but everyone we approached for help were very helpful.

This year the weather was a bit damp at times but everyone still had a great time :)

Dordt in Steam

I would 100% endorse your sentiments.

We went in 2018 and it seems we had better weather. I posted this report at the time.

Having met a number of Dutch railway enthusiasts over the years, I was not surprised to find everyone very helpful and almost everyone spoke embarrassingly good English.

As I had never been through the 'Chunnel', I was very glad when a friend of mine arranged a discounted Eurostar ticket to the 'last station in Belgium' which wasn't far short of Dordt. Fortunately, my son lives in London and we could leave our car with him.

We were also advised to book a hotel room in good time. Unfortunately, we were too late for the parade of steam ships on the Saturday, it would have meant an extra day's hotel stay.

The event is biennial, check out the 2026 one in good time.

Wow - fantastic to see Jan's 3" Scale R3 finished and on display. That is absolutely beautiful.

I strongly endorse the recommendation to visit "Doort in Stoom". I wasn't able to get there this year but at the previous event, in 2022, there was only one British entrant - a Stanley car. Before the nonsense of Brexit there had been almost as many British as continental entries, full size and miniature. I think some of the photos I've seen from this year showed British entrants, but I can't be sure. I do hope the grown-ups are starting to "take back control"!

There definitely was a few British engines/cars. Not sure if you saw but to get round the import/export law, a Foden wagon had a road compressor in the bed and drove on and off the ferry! Very inventive.

In the absence of a 'like' button: Iain, you - and the owner of the Foden - have made my day!

Yes it is superb, I was good to meet him and his wife, we had a long conversation with him about our mutual hobby :)

Is there no like function any more ? I’d thought no one was interested in the post !

Something might be possible with emojis , but rather cumbersome . Come to think of it , I cannot exactly remember how the old " thanks " job worked !
