Boiler Stays
Apologies if this has been asked before, but does anyone know of a source of threaded stays? EN3B with a Whitworth thread being the preference (7/8 in. I think).
Thanks Tom |
Any jobbing machine shop should be able to knock them out on a CNC machine , but be sure to specify the material , and supply a drawing , and get a cert of some sort for the material to show your boiler inspector . Otherwise they will make them out of a free turning leaded steel . I did not say a receipt , because you might be able to get a cash deal . Brian Allison at Allison Steam Supplies could no doubt help , but a local back door deal into the back of your car would be simplest . Whereabouts are you , so someone with local knowledge can help you .

We can do this for you without a problem in Lincoln. The trick is making sure they are nice and tight.
Are they new or old threads? Do you have a stay tap? As an example for price, we have just done 150 x 7/8" x 6" long stays and it comes out at about £5 per stay. That's in EN3B which certs. Material price is the variable at the moment. www.jubbengineering.com |
R.a. barker enginerring down at Chelmsford made mine. Make sure you have the stay tap you are going to use if you going up a size or just cleaning out the threads as the stays thread can be adjusted during the manufacture to be a tight fit in the plate and help with sealing up.

Give Phil Francis a call at Allbolts. He's made them for me before and to the exact fit if the stay tap I was using
